Dr Thomas Black
Senior Chiropractor / Associate Neuro-Rehab Therapist
Dr Tom Black brings a unique, high-performance edge to chiropractic care, shaped by his background as an athlete and his personal experience with concussion-related dizziness.
His early experience on the football field, where he encountered repeated injuries, ignited a deeper curiosity: how could movement, recovery, and resilience be optimised — not just patched up? Furthermore, there had to be a better solution to concussion care - how to be proactive in prevention and symptom management after a head injury.
Turning his setbacks into an opportunity, Tom immersed himself in rehabilitative care, biomechanical training, performance science and neuroscience. He did not just want to “fix what was hurting”; he wanted to help people move well, prevent injuries and thrive.
Academic Background
Tom holds a Bachelor of Applied Science (Chiropractic) and a Master of Clinical Chiropractic (with Distinction) from RMIT University, and he is currently pursuing a Master of Exercise Science (Strength & Conditioning) at ECU. This academic foundation is paired with specialised training in neuro-musculoskeletal care: he is certified in Functional Neurology-Orthopaedic Rehabilitation (FNOR), holds an International Certificate of Sports Chiropractic, and is completing a Clinical Neuroscience program through the Carrick Institute.
Sporting Injuries and Performance
In his hands-on work, Tom integrates manual chiropractic techniques with tailored exercise prescription, dry needling, and movement analysis to deliver care that’s both corrective and performance-driven. He notably served on the medical team for some of Australia’s leading golfers on the Australasian PGA Tour, collaborating with physiotherapists and sports doctors to support elite athletes.
Tom is also trained in clinical gait analysis, pain science, stress-management (as a Sympathetic Dominance Practitioner), and IASTM (Instrument-Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilisation). As a member of Sports Medicine Australia and the Australian Chiropractors Association, he stays at the forefront of evidence-based sports and neuro-rehabilitation strategies.
Tom’s philosophy is simple: recovery isn’t just about relief — it’s about building strength, resilience, and long-term movement capacity. Whether you’re stepping back into sport after injury, managing a neurological condition, or sharpening your performance, Tom crafts a plan that’s built for you — not a one-size-fits-all solution
Dizziness, Vertigo and Post-Concussion Syndrome
Dr Tom has a strong interest in supporting people with dizziness, vertigo, balance difficulties and post-concussion symptoms, recognising how disruptive and distressing these conditions can be to daily life. He takes a thoughtful, thorough approach to care, aiming to understand the underlying contributors to symptoms such as spinning sensations, light-headedness, unsteadiness, headaches, brain fog and reduced confidence with movement.
Where appropriate, care may involve gentle chiropractic techniques alongside movement-based and neurological rehabilitation strategies designed to support communication between the spine, brain and balance systems. Tom is particularly passionate about helping patients feel more stable, confident and capable as they return to work, sport and everyday activities following concussion or ongoing vestibular challenges.
This passion has grown from his own experience with ongoing symptoms following concussion, giving him a deep, first-hand appreciation of the challenges patients face.
