Cosmetic Acupuncture &
Natural Facial Rejuvenation

One of the most holistic and natural beauty treatments available, cosmetic acupuncture and natural facial rejuvenation may help to improve skin conditions and address premature ageing. Without the use of chemicals, lasers or injections it is ideal if you wish to avoid the use of potentially harmful substances and the side effects of laser treatment.

Cosmetic acupuncture is performed by a fully qualified doctor of Chinese medicine (Dr Sheena Vaughan) , in a clinical setting. Your treatment goes beyond skin deep with a full holistic health and skin diagnosis; taking into account your physical and emotional wellbeing. From this your doctor can ascertain the deeper underlying cause of your issues whether it be digestive, hormonal or a complex picture of several factors.

You will gain a deeper insight into your internal imbalances, understanding challenges your doctor can help you overcome with cosmetic acupuncture . From here you will receive a personalised treatment goal with weekly sessions to build you up into a state of health and vitality.

What can I expect in a session?

After your initial analysis your treatment will begin with a stimulating skin needling session. A single use, sterile dermal roller is used to gently stimulate the growth of collagen and elastin cells just deep to the top layer of your skin. Skin needling is very comfortable, will not cause pain or bleeding and will not leave you red and raw like some other procedures. Your skin will recover very quickly from this treatment without visible irritation.

This initial phase is followed by the use of an organic refining serum matched to your skin’s needs, a gentle body acupuncture treatment to harmonise your system and painless facial acupuncture treatment to target problem areas. Your facial acupuncture session is extremely gentle, using highly specialised sterile equipment. The facial acupuncture serves to work on deep muscle blockages, releasing tension that can cause deep lines and furrowing.

Following your treatment you will receive a deeply relaxing jade stone facial massage, stimulating trigger points to further stimulate and relax facial muscles. Jade stone has been used for thousands of years in traditional Chinese facial rejuvenation, often revered as the ultimate symbol of clarity and beauty.

A head reflexology treatment concludes your experience, leaving you feeling refreshed and revived. Post session you will be ready for your day without needing to take down time. Qi Medicine appreciates that you lead a busy life and so has tailored its signature treatment to cause minimal visible redness.

I’m a little scared of needles. Is this for me?

Absolutely. Qi Medicine specialises in taking first-timers through the experience step by step. Once you have experienced your first cosmetic acupuncture session you will realise just how very relaxing it actually is!

Unfortunately many of us have been conditioned to dislike needles from injections as a child. Cosmetic acupuncture is a completely different experience and is designed to be gentle, painless and ultimately very relaxing. If you are unsure feel free to book in for a free consultation with one of our doctors to discuss any concerns you may have.

What results can I expect?

Cosmetic acupuncture and facial rejuvenation can help you look as good as you can for someone of your age, gender and lifestyle. That said it is by no means a miracle cure, and will certainly not reverse all signs of ageing (as with all cosmetic procedures).

Although not an exhaustive list, some of the more common issues Qi Medicine has helped it’s clients overcome include:

  • Sagging and drooping around the jowls and mouth
  • Deep naso-labial (mouth) lines
  • Darkness under the eyes and drooping eyelids
  • Frown lines and furrowed brow lines
  • Rough, patchy, uneven skin
  • Active cystic or hormonal acne
  • Old acne scarring
  • Bell’s palsy
  • Pigmentation and melasma
  • Rosacea and redness
  • Dry, flaking skin

How do I know my skin issues are hormonal?

The health of your skin is deeply connected with the balance of your hormones. More often than not you may be completely unaware of a hormonal problem underlying your issue, and just ‘putting up’ with poor skin. This is endemic in modern society as we are exposed to toxins that disrupt our natural hormones such as contraceptives, plastics and chemicals in our foods.

Some of the more common signs you may have a hormonal disruption include:

  • Breakouts mid cycle or at period time
  • Thin wrinkly skin, thinning hair, low libido
  • Deep, oily cystic acne
  • Pre-menstrual syndrome including cramping, moodiness, fatigue, tender breasts (no, these signs are actually not ‘normal’ and can be helped naturally).
  • Difficult periods or gynaecological issues
  • More dark patches or melasma on your cheeks and forehead
  • Food sensitivities, bloating, irregular digestion
  • Facial redness or flushing, particularly after eating or drinking

Thankfully, Chinese medicine is well equipped to deal with all of these issues and more. As a part of your treatment you will be assessed and treated to help bring your hormones back to a state of harmony.

Checklist to qualify for cosmetic acupuncture:

If you are experiencing any of the following, you are generally not advised to undergo facial rejuvenation. Contact the clinic if you are unsure about your individual circumstances.

  • Broken skin, scabs, wounds, blisters, cold sores, acne spots (active), rashes
  • Psoriasis
  • Contagious skin problems
  • Skin cancers
  • Pregnant women
  • Haemophiliac or other bleeding disorders
  • Straight after micro-dermabrasion or laser resurfacing
  • Severe allergy to nickel (alternatives available)

What is the cost?

If you have cover for acupuncture with your private health insurer you may be able to claim some of the cost back through HICAPS. Please discuss this directly with your doctor before your treatment.

Sessions start from $110 per session, with package discounts available. As cosmetic acupuncture works by promoting self-healing of the body some time is needed to allow this process. Typically, a course of 12-15 sessions are needed to achieve optimum results.
