Seasonal Skin Changes: Our skin changes with the seasons. This means that we have different requirements as the weather changes. Think about the varying temperature, humidity and hours of sunlight. In winter, more hydration is required to even out the dried skin from heating units and more time inside. Then when summer comes around, facials are required to cool the skin and reduce sun-damage. Facials in the transition seasons will prepare your skin for the harsh weather ahead with a proactive approach to health and beauty.

After assessing your skin health, we will be able to identify common skin issues and understand your skin. Utilising this knowledge, Kathleen will select products and facial techniques to complement your skin type during the session. She will also explain why certain products are being used and give you advice for at home. For example, traditional exfoliants may aggravate your skin, especially if you have a Pitta predominance, according to traditional Indian Medicine (see What are the different Ayurvedic Skin Types?). Instead gentle massaging techniques may be incorporated with a soft exfoliation.

What is Ayurveda?
Ayurveda or Ayurvedic Medicine is a traditional Indian medical system used for more than 3000 years. This makes it one of the oldest approaches to healthcare. It’s survived the ages due to its comprehensive, holistic approach.
As yogis will understand, Ayurveda is a way of life. A method to maintain health and improve your energy & awareness. Just like yoga, the benefits extend beyond the time spent in the Ayurvedic consultation or yoga class.
Using a body, mind & soul approach, Ayurveda addresses the psychological, spiritual and physical health. It involves the science of promoting health and longevity.
What are the different Ayurvedic Skin Types?
Understanding that we all have different skin types and that each person has different requirements, we shouldn’t all be using the same products. Each ingredient produces a different effect depending upon your skin condition and your constitution type, which is called your dosha in ancient Indian medicine (Ayurveda or Ayurvedic Medicine).
Ayurveda divides our skin, body and mind into 3 types, also known as the ‘doshas’ – Vata, Pitta and Kapha. These skin types are governed by the five elements: earth, water, fire, air, and space. The doshas and basic elements can become unbalanced and through Ayurvedic therapies, such as facials, can be corrected, bringing us closer to our most balanced selves.
For example, dry skin may be due to a the Vata Dosha being imbalanced. This is where air and space are more predominate. This can be remedied with warming, moisture rich ingredients to counterbalance the cold and dryness of Vata.

Kathleen has over 10 years of experience in the beauty industry, having worked in some of Melbourne’s most respected Day Spas and Skin clinics. Due to working with and also using many products on her own skin, Kathleen is passionate about using natural and organic products. You will often find her at home making her own masks and body scrubs using all-natural ingredients.
As a therapist she works from a holistic framework, bringing the body, breath and mind back into sync. Creating more balance within our being.
A facial with Kathleen will include touch and massage to promote relaxation and self-care; breath and essential oils to anchor the mind to the body, letting go of your daily stresses; and finally using organic products inspired by Ayurvedic science to bring the skin back into balance making you feel better.
